oriental-occidental controversy in education

                            oriental-occidental controversy Earlier,In INDIA,education was provided by private sector only.After the cognizance of Britishers ,it came into the hands of government.They tried to give education a western flavour,and of course,they were succeed in this motive. The current education system had begun to grow it's root in 19th century.there were contradictions whether to continue the oriental education or to introduce the European ,western literature and science.It was LORD MACAULAY who advocated the European education in India. He came to India as a law member of council of Governer-general on 10th June 1834.he was appointed as a chair man of the society of the public instructions of Bengal by LORD WILLIAM BENTICK.At that time a violent ORIENTAL AND OCCIDENTAL controversy regarding medium of education in India was very evident. LORD MACAULAY submitted his minutes on 2nd February 1835....

DEFINITION OF EDUCATION There are various definitions given by various  educationists and erudites.Basically education is a life long process as one have to learn the things whole life ,still there are some definitions of great importance.According to DICTIONARY OF EDUCATION which is edited by C.V GOOD,1973,education is defined as....  "THE AGGREGATE OF ALL THE PROCESSES BY WHICH A PERSON DEVELOPS ABILITIES,ATTITUDES AND OTHER FORMS OF BEHAVIOUR OF PRACTICAL VALUES IN THE SOCIETY IN WHICH HE /SHE LIVES;THE SOCIAL PROCESSES BY WHICH THE PEOPLE ARE SUBJECTEDTO THE INFLUENCE OF SELECTEDAND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT [ESPECIALLY THAT OF THE SCHOOL] ,SO THAT THEY MAY OBTAIN SOCIAL COMPETENCE AND OPTIMUM INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT." EDUCATION WHAT IS EDUCATION? ETYMOLOGICAL MEANING OF EDUCATION The education is a very common and famous term that is understood in many ways but very few people take it in right perspective. Etymologically ,the word education is derived from latin word' EDUCARE'which means 'TO RAISE'or 'TO BRING UP' another view is this ,that the word is derived from 'EDUCERE'..........which means 'TO LEAD FORTH' or' TO COME OUT' some other believe that the word education is derived from latin word' EDUCATUM'  which means 'THE ACT OF TRAINING' or THE ACT OF TRAINING so..........we can say that the edcation is the tool or the process which.........         nourishes the goodness in an individual.         draw out the best in the learner.         develop the innate and hidden capabilities and potentials in an individual.
